So today was my first day back at University as a second year student. I was kinda nervous but also excited meeting everyone again and continuing with my studies. So with the first year students we were assigned to groups to create a creative and structural solution which needs to be able to span a gap of 1.5 meters which is equivalent to 15 meters at a 1:1 scale. When carrying out this project we had to carefully consider how we can make best use of the materials we were provided ensuring it can span the gap efficiently and hold as much weight as possible.
Each group was allocated with a set quantity of materials. No extra materials of fixing agents are allowed to be used during the construction process. Given materials:
- 3 x 250 x 800 x 4mm double sided foam board with additional 0.1mm paper layer (recycled)
- 1 x 4000 x 2.5mm thread
- 1 x 500 x 50mm double sided tape
- 4 x regular 90g A4 printing paper
- 3 x 30 x 420mm 1mm cardboard
- 1 x 150 x 80mm central foam board plate for holding the weights (compulsory)
